REACH
What is REACH?
The European Union’s REACH Regulation 1907/2006, entered into force on 1. June 2007, stands for: “Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals”. REACH combines many different already existing regulations and covers approximately 30.000 chemical substances, brought to the EU-Market as chemical substances or as a chemical component of a product.
The obligations for manufacturers and importers are staggered, so that different deadlines apply over the next 10 years. The first deadline is for pre-registrations of substances at ECHA (the new European Chemicals Agency, based in Helsinki) from 1. June 2008 to 1. December 2008.
Katun’s REACH Policy
Katun is taking a proactive approach with its product assessments, processes and actions to reduce environmental effects and to take care of health and safety, as well as to be compliant within the period of time the law provides. Consequently, Katun already pre-registered its relevant substances in July 2008 and is therefore, compliant. In addition, Katun is in the process of updating its Safety Data Sheets to REACH requirements.
